The Titanic

So I was at Walgreens today. I struck up a conversation with the approximately 17-year-old cashier. They had just played the same pharmacy ad for the fifth time while I had been there. She lamented that she was so tired of this particular ad. I related that I had worked at Circuit City during the height of the "Titanic" craze and got to hear the horrendous "My Heart Will Go On" every half hour for four months. She responded with "I loved that movie, I used to watch it all the time but I don't anymore since she knows how it ends". I retorted that I knew how it ended before I saw the movie -- the boat sank. She very seriously replied "I didn't know, I hadn't read the book." In my dumbfounded state I didn't know how to respond but she then countered with "I never read the book before I see a movie." I waited for the laugh or the slightest thought that she might be joking but alas it never came.

Oprah just did a special about school in America and how students are going into college and having to retake almost their whole junior and senior years of high school. They are not prepared. Bill Gates is teaming with her and Bono to change it. That will take years!
