Happy Fat Tuesday!

It is fat Tuesday again. Which means it is also time to decide what I'm giving up for lent. I am thinking about giving up all soda. It is something I have been wanting to do for some time. I gave up Dr. Pepper last year in an attempt to break that addiction - which it did but made me addicted to Sierra Mist. So they are all going to go this year. So today was my last Sprite, at least until Easter.

I also decided to have a verse that I'm going to work on living during this season. During my women's bible study last night we were talking about the fruits of the spirit. (Fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and self-control Galatians 5) How you aren't able to pick which fruits you like but you need to embody all of them, as Jesus did. That's a tall order. I'm fairly kind and love is easy but patience?? Not so much. Not only are we to keep our fruits of the spirit growing but we are called to help other people cultivate their fruits of the spirit. Which to me is amazingly hard. My biggest problem is controlling my mouth. I speak before I think - a lot. So this season I'm going to work on that. So my Lenten season verse is Ephesians 4:9 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen". How powerful is that? Can you imagine if every time you spoke it lifted those around you??? What an amazing task.
